HELP & QUICK START
From your first clip
to your finished video.
Get familiar with the essentials. Keep this guide nearby while you explore ShortsJet.
Start with your footage.
Create a project and choose your format: vertical 9:16 for shorts and reels, or landscape 16:9 for a wider view. Click Import media or drag your files into the window to add videos, images and audio.
Save with Ctrl + S. A .shortsjet project refers to your original media files; keep those files with your project when moving it to another folder or computer.
Keep the parts that matter.
Drag clips to arrange your story. Drag a clip edge to trim it, or place the playhead and press S to split. Add visual and audio layers to combine footage, text, images and sound.
Use Speed (T) and drag a clip edge to change its speed. Press V to return to normal trimming. Double-click an image or video in the preview to crop it without changing the original.
Use the text and shape tools under Overlays. Add Popup or Punch Zoom from the Effects tab for a little emphasis.
Give your words a place on screen.
Open Overlays → Auto Captions. Select a video or audio clip, or use the audible timeline mix. Choose a language or let ShortsJet detect it, then generate captions.
Speech recognition runs locally using Whisper. Your audio is not uploaded for transcription. The speech tools and language model need to be installed with your copy of ShortsJet.
Correct the text and timing of individual captions. Changes to font, colour, background, shadow and position apply to the generated caption group. Optional Translate to English creates English captions.
Record right into your edit.
Select an audio layer and place the playhead where your voiceover should start. Press R to record from your microphone and press R again to stop. Your operating system must allow microphone access.
Use the waveform to line up the recording. Adjust volume and fades, mute a layer or use solo to listen to it on its own.
Give your story its final frame.
Choose Export video to render an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. The export follows your project format and runs to the end of the last clip.
The camera button in the timeline toolbar saves the current frame as a PNG title image in your project folder. It includes the visible layers and text.
A few keys to keep you moving.
