PRIVACY
Privacy Policy
How personal data is processed on this website.
Last updated: October 11, 2026. This policy covers the website, downloads and the desktop trial and license service. It also covers purchases, transactional email, passwordless license access and withdrawal notices. We do not offer newsletters.
Website download buttons increment a daily counter by operating system and app version. This counter stores no IP address, email, browser information or user identifier and sets no cookie. It counts requests, not individual people or completed downloads. Authorized administrators can view these totals and the existing purchase, license and delivery records to operate the service and handle customer support.

2. Website access and hosting
When you visit this website, the web server processes technical connection data, including your IP address, date and time, requested files, HTTP status and information sent by your browser, such as browser type, operating system and, where applicable, the referring page. This data is used to deliver the website, diagnose errors and prevent abuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is the secure and reliable operation of the website.
Hosting provider: Host Europe GmbH, c/o Spaces, Gertrudenstrasse 30-36, 50667 Cologne, Germany.
Further information: hosting provider's privacy policy.
Server log retention period: Host Europe access logs: 14 days; server error logs: 7 days.
3. Cookies, browser storage and embedded content
The website uses no analytics or advertising tracking. When you explicitly save a necessary-only choice in the cookie notice, one first-party preference cookie remembers that choice for 180 days. It contains the choice, policy version and save date, without a unique user identifier. No cookie is saved merely by visiting, scrolling or dismissing the notice. You can review or forget the saved choice through Cookie settings in the footer.
Storage and access needed to remember your requested preference are based on § 25(2)(2) of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG). To the extent personal data is processed, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is reliably respecting your privacy preferences. See the Cookie Policy for the cookie name, duration and your options.
Fonts come from your operating system; CSS, JavaScript, icons and demonstration videos are served by this website. No external video players or font services are embedded. Local storage and session storage are not used. Your selected video tab is held only in memory for the currently open page. Any future optional services requiring consent must remain inactive until you give that consent.
4. Contact by email
If you contact us, we process your email address, the contact details you provide and the content of your message to respond to your inquiry. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for contractual or pre-contractual inquiries, and Article 6(1)(f) GDPR for other inquiries. Our legitimate interest is handling your message.
The contact mailbox is hosted by Gmail, a Google service. When you contact us, Google processes the message as part of its email service; data may also be processed outside the EU or EEA. See Google's Privacy Policy for more information. Google describes its international transfer safeguards, including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses, in its data transfer information.
Contact inquiries are deleted once they have been handled and further retention is no longer necessary for processing, legal obligations or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
5. Desktop application, trials and licenses
Media editing, video export and automatic caption generation in ShortsJet run locally on your computer. The information website does not receive your video or audio files through these features.
Starting a trial or activating a license sends a product-specific hash derived from the device identifier, an installation identifier, the app version and the request to our license service at shortsjet.com over HTTPS. A purchased key is also sent when you activate it. The original device identifier and your media files are not sent. Technical connection data, including the IP address, is processed by the hosting service. No email address or account is required to start a trial.
We store the device hash, trial dates, license entitlement, activation identifiers and status, and protected technical records needed to handle retries. Purchased license keys are stored as hashes. This processing provides the trial or license you request (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) and prevents trial resets and use beyond the licensed workstation limit (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We retain license and activation records while needed to administer the entitlement and address disputes. The limited device-hash/trial-history record is retained while needed to enforce one trial per device; reinstalling the software does not reset it. Contact us to request review or erasure, subject to applicable retention grounds.
Activation information is also saved locally using Windows data protection, the Linux desktop keyring, or an encrypted file with its key stored in the macOS login keychain. License checks determine whether the editor can be used. Contact support if you believe a check is incorrect. Purchase and transactional email processing is described below.
6. Purchases, payments and email delivery
Stripe processes your payment, billing details and purchase email on its hosted checkout page. We receive payment references, payment status, purchase amount and currency, billing country and email. Full card details are not stored by ShortsJet. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
We link your purchase email to your order, license and workstation activations. Email addresses and contract confirmations are encrypted in our database. License keys are hashed for activation; a key is held in encrypted form while its delivery email is pending. That delivery payload is removed when the mail transport accepts the message. Purchase and contract records are retained while needed to administer your entitlement, meet statutory accounting obligations or resolve claims. Temporary access links expire after 20 minutes; expired tokens are removed by a scheduled task.
Transactional messages, including license keys, access links and withdrawal confirmations, are sent through Mailjet (Sinch). Mailjet processes recipient addresses, message content and delivery information. This is service email, not marketing. See Mailjet's Privacy Policy. Replies go to our Gmail support address. These providers may process data outside the EU/EEA. Their privacy policies describe the applicable transfer mechanisms, including European standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. You can request further information about these safeguards using our contact address.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for ordering, fulfilling and administering your contract, Article 6(1)(c) for statutory documentation obligations, and Article 6(1)(f) for preventing fraud and securing access. When you request license access, we send a single-use link to the purchase address; no password is created. Withdrawal statements and receipt times are stored to process and document your request. Providing the necessary purchase email and billing information is required to complete an order and deliver a license.
7. Necessary service sessions
The purchase, license access and withdrawal forms use necessary first-party session and CSRF cookies. The server session can contain your submitted form details, consent, purchase reference and temporary license access. It expires after 60 minutes of inactivity; verified license access lasts at most 30 minutes. These functions require cookies even if you dismiss the cookie notice. Storage is necessary for the service you request under Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG; related processing is based on Article 6(1)(b) and, for security, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. General information pages do not start these sessions.
8. Your rights
Subject to the applicable legal requirements, you have the right of access (Article 15 GDPR), rectification (Article 16), erasure (Article 17), restriction of processing (Article 18) and data portability (Article 20). Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time with effect for the future.
Right to object: Where we process data under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object on grounds relating to your particular situation under Article 21 GDPR. You may object to processing for direct marketing at any time.
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, particularly in your place of residence, workplace or the location of the alleged infringement. For Baden-Württemberg, you can contact the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Baden-Württemberg.
9. Providing data and automated decisions
You are not legally or contractually required to contact us. Without the details needed for a reply, we may be unable to answer your message. Technical connection data is necessary to deliver the website. This website does not use profiling or make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
