SHORTSJET EDITING GUIDES
How to freeze a video frame for a clearer explanation
A fast action can pass before the viewer sees what matters. A freeze frame inserts a still moment into the edit, giving you room to explain a basketball move, a reaction or the completed state of a tutorial step.
- Choose a clear source frame
- Adjust the hold duration
- Review audio and overlays
Choose the frame that carries the explanation
Move through the action and look for a frame where the important shape or result is visible. For a basketball example, the useful moment may be just before the finish, when the hand position can be seen. A blurred action frame will remain blurred when held.
For a software tutorial, choose the completed setting rather than the middle of a menu movement. The hold should give viewers time to inspect a result, not make them guess what the action will become.
Make the hold fit the explanation
ShortsJet inserts an initial one-second still. Drag its right edge to adjust the duration to your commentary. The following video and explicitly linked content move with the change, so review the sequence after lengthening the pause.
The original video audio pauses with the picture during the hold. A separate music track continues. Listen for whether the pause interrupts an important spoken phrase and use a separate voiceover when the held frame needs additional explanation.
Point out one detail, then return to motion
Place a short label or arrow on a separate layer to explain what viewers should inspect. A freeze frame can also use Punch Zoom when a closer view helps. Keep the annotation brief enough to understand within the hold.
Preview the lead-in and the return to motion. A pause that makes sense in isolation may feel abrupt during playback. Check the timing of separate captions and overlays because they have their own positions on the timeline.
Insert a freeze frame in ShortsJet

Select a video clip and position the playhead inside it at the exact moment you want to hold.
Insert the still
Choose Insert Freeze Frame from the timeline toolbar or the clip context menu.
Set the pause
Drag the right edge of the inserted still to fit your explanation and inspect the shifted following footage.
Review the complete moment
Check music, source audio, captions and the return to motion, then export and watch the passage.
Frequently asked questions
Does all the audio stop during a freeze frame?
No. The source audio belonging to the paused video stops for the hold, while separate music tracks continue.
Can I extend the freeze after inserting it?
Yes. Drag the still clip’s right edge. Review the following video and explicitly linked content after changing the duration.
