Create a pause exactly where it matters
Select a video clip and place the playhead inside it. Insert Freeze Frame takes the source frame at that position and inserts it as an image clip. The initial pause is one second, giving you a starting point for the moment you want to hold.
In a sports clip, that might be the instant a player reaches the rim. In a screen tutorial, it could be the finished settings panel before the next action. A deliberate pause gives viewers time to see the detail you are discussing.
Make the hold fit your explanation
Drag the right edge of the inserted still to change the pause. The following video and explicitly linked content move with that adjustment. You can hold the image just long enough for a short observation or give a more detailed explanation room to breathe.
The original clip’s audio pauses with the frozen picture. Other music tracks continue, so the visual hold can remain part of the soundtrack rather than creating a break in the whole mix.
Keep the framing and add emphasis
The frozen image takes account of the source clip’s crop, rotation, speed and visual settings. It belongs to the video you selected; independent captions and other overlays remain separate elements in the composition.
A freeze frame can also use Punch Zoom. Bring a detail closer during the hold, or place text and shapes on their own layers to explain what the viewer should notice. Preview the lead-in and the return to motion so the pause feels intentional.

Will the background music stop during the freeze frame?
A separate music track keeps playing. The original audio belonging to the paused video stops for the duration of the inserted hold.
Can I change the length after inserting the still?
