Follow the action as you narrate
Place the playhead where the explanation should begin and use the red recording control on an audio track. Playback and microphone recording start together after a brief delay. Watching the footage as you speak helps you describe a menu selection, a product detail or the next step in a demonstration.
When you stop recording, the take appears as an audio clip at its starting position. You can record beyond the existing end of the picture when a closing thought needs a little more time.
Edit the take as part of your video
The recorded waveform makes pauses and spoken phrases easier to locate. Trim away a long lead-in, move the take to a better starting point or adjust the length of the surrounding footage to fit the explanation. Your voiceover is a normal audio clip, so it stays visible alongside music and video sound.
This is useful when a tutorial needs a fresh explanation after the screen recording is finished. You can work on the narration without having to record the demonstration again.
Balance your voice against the soundtrack
Adjust the volume of the recorded clip and add fades where it enters or ends. Use mute and solo to listen to a layer on its own, then preview the full mix to check that music and sound effects leave room for the voice. The same volume settings are used in the exported video.
Recording uses the default microphone selected in your operating system. Check that the microphone is permitted and working before your take. A quiet recording space and a consistent distance from the microphone give you a better starting point for the mix.

Can I record narration after editing the video?
Yes. Place the playhead at the relevant moment and record onto an audio layer. You can add or replace an explanation after arranging your footage.
Can I create captions from the recorded voiceover?
Yes. Select the voiceover clip for Auto Captions, or generate captions from the audible timeline mix.
